@asstin1212, yes it would be great for recording samples. Check out the newer LS11 as well.

would this be a good device for recording my own samples to put into electronic music for instance i think a crushing coke can would make an interesting sounding snare

Sound quality is very good. It’s a professional device.
You can compare quality to other similar recorders at wingfieldaudio web site.
April 10th, 2010 - 04:42
how is the sound quality?

Read the manual!

You say that you can just set it on automatic instead of setting the recording levels but you don’t show how to do that.
Mine just arrived today and I am trying to figure it out.
Any help is appreciated.

The new model is the LS11.
I don’t know price or availability for you because you don’t say where you are.

It’s good for recording anything! The new model is the LS11 though.
Also it’s better to record a band from a mixer which the whole band plugs into.

is this good for recording a garage band
April 10th, 2010 - 08:16
Yes, it records from line in.
April 10th, 2010 - 09:04
Can the line in be substituted for a mic, e.g. record from the line-in instead of the mics?
April 10th, 2010 - 09:31
Right, I don’t know what I was thinking! I am actually researching about which could be the most inexpensive-better quality-practical method for recording audio for no-budget filmmaking without using the camera audio sistem. Thanks for the answer

No – the LS10 is obviously too small to feature two XLR sockets, and having phantom power would also require a bigger battery.
The idea of the LS10 (and now LS11) is that they’re very small self contained high quality recorders.
Models with XLRs and phantom power tend to be much bigger.

can this handle phantom powered mics? (without a battery on the mic)

Well done review. Thank you so much.

No, it’s stereo.
Look at Tascam Pocketstudio 5, Tascam DP004, Korg D4, Boss Micro BR etc.

Does this have multi-track recording?
April 10th, 2010 - 14:00
well i ended up keeping this… for solos on guitar this thing is decent… set mic sense “low” then EQ your guitar rig and adjust the recording volume manually and it’s pretty damn amazing… when i first got it i just left the mic sense on “high” that’s what was causing all the artifacts/distortion.

I just bought mine… hmm, the LS-11 is coming out now lol. So far i like it, but i need to experiment more. I notice some distortion/artifacts which is sad, but i’ve read many forums stating it’s common with most of these types of PCM recorders. I have a Sony stereo condenser mic with phantom power that i still need to try out with this thing… just needs a new battery, so maybe that will sound better.
This thing if great if you like recording live shows, rehearsals, samples etc.

I’m probably buying this tomorrow to collect samples with and perhaps record my guitar tracks

I do know that this is a feature they have added to the new model, the LS11.
We might see it filter down to the LS10 via a firmware update if we’re lucky.
