Excellent review, many thanks. I have just bought the D700 with a 24-70 lens. Was wondering what your thoughts were with regard to getting a decent lens filter – mainly to protect the front end of the lens but also with regard to cutting out UV haze etc. Is it important to go for a top quality brand like Hoya or B&W?

I guess its ok….BUT… if you are shooting tethered the screen wont show the last shot which is a pain. Also, if you are firewired all the time then at some point you will pull on the firewire (too small and delicate) and either damage the wire or the camera (very expensive). This is not a pro camera for the studio if you move about a bit. After years with a phase one back which is a workhorse…the D700 is a bit of a toy.

Hi Chris,
How do you think the Nikon D700 compares to the Canon 5D MKII? I am not a professional photographer and do you think a camera like the D700 is overkill for me. I like the full-size sensor but many people ytell me that I will not see the difference between this camera and an APS-C camera like a D90 or the new canon 7D.
Thanks,
Ron

August 11th, 2010 - 14:31
yes, it does.
August 11th, 2010 - 14:38
Yes, but they do not cover the whole frame like the D300.
August 11th, 2010 - 15:16
Due to that, exist AF-L.
August 11th, 2010 - 15:30
hey has the d700 got the same 51 point focus ? system as the d 300
August 11th, 2010 - 15:39
yes the 24-70 and the 17-55 will work on the d300 although the 17-55 will not work if you later go with a full frame but the 24-70 will work for both
