Hey which do you think is better?the 35mm 1.8g or the 50mm 1.8g?They’ve got almost the same price and I really can’t choose between the 2 lenses. Thanks!

Hi Guys, i bought the 1.4 G 2010 and i really must say this was the worst Lens i ever had. Not because of the buildquality. My Lens had a big problem with Frontfocus.
That means the Point i was aiming while focussing and the sharpest area in the immage differs nearly 15mm. btw i used a tripod and a wireless trigger and i was shooting wide open.

I own a D90 and was thinking to get a 50mm lens, but I am not able to decide which one to go for… 1.8D or the new 1.8G (which is almost double its price) What would you suggest?

“I love my D”

Great tut… Thanks

i prefer the d, focus ring feels nicer for video and manual aperture ring is great fun to use and allows live view aperture changes without leaving live view.

@AmitMusicStaz The 18-105 is my walk around lens and the pictures it takes are very sharp. It’s alot better than the kit lens that my camera came with.

i have trouble deciding which first lens should i buy, the 50mm f1.8g or the 18-105mm vr f3.5-5.6?

3:44 LOL.

@laguerta14 – You can’t use the Nikon 50mm f1.8D on the Nikon D5100 if you want auto-focus. You need an AF-S G lens which have a built-in motor, so the Nikon 50mm f1.8G is the best choice… not to mention quite possibly the best Nikon 50mm to date.

AND 2: Instead of just talking about the differences, why not list them in the video and in the description. If I can’t remember what was said, it would be nice if at the end you summarized what you went over (in a chart or similar) and listed it in the discription so I can see if you are covering what I want to know before I watch it.

In the same line as bnorris07 – I have some other suggestions: 1. It would be nice to zoom into the lens, for example where you compare the sizes, it would be much easier to see, if they were all sitting there and thats all you saw instead of holding it in your hand. I have seen some videos where they rotate the camera or lens being reviewed on a white table with white back ground. In this way, we can get a closer look at the lens.

@bnorris07 I was going to say the same thing

Hey, i just want to ask, whats your opinion about the new lytro camera?
November 22nd, 2011 - 01:37
@bnorris07 – Photos will be coming soon. This video was to compare the lenses physically side by side.

Hey, I enjoy your videos. So don’t hear this as me being a “hater”. But I think it would help us sooo much more if you took pictures with lenses and compare them, instead of just reading from stat sheets. We could get that info on Nikon’s website. Again I’m not a hater, just some constructive criticism. Thanks for all the vids.

the contrast of the lens is superb and very very low chromatic abbreviations. If you put a good quality UV filter on it IT BECOMES “” WEATHER SEALED “”. Yes it has rubber gasket on the back and if you seal it with a filer from the front it is a weather-sealed lens.

I have the new 50 1.8G and it is killer sharp at f/2 and creamy bokeh. the bokeh starts to turn hexagonal at f/4.5. but this lens will cut your sensor with sharpness edge to edge at f/5.6. the thing I hate about this lens is that it is prone to very bad pink colored flare if pointed directly at light source. and also the inner focus mechanism exposes the lens to dust completely from the front, thugh from the back it’s weather sealed ! with rubber gasket.

@Alexvideoclip – Just lucky I guess. When I was putting it on, it ended up pretty close to perfect, and I just backed it off a bit. Luckily it was still tight.

@ianz28 – Good point!

The 50mm f1.4G & f1.8G have rounded aperture blades. The older 50′s don’t. It’s an important difference with specular highlights in the background when stopping down the lens.

How can you get your “tulip” hood right on your 50mm f/1.8D ?
The short side of the hood must be perfectly parallel to the side of the camera to be efficient.
It’s easy when you have a “lock on” hood but how you do that with a screw in hood ?
Just curious.
Thank you for the review.
