My Choice for a Nikon DSLR Digital Camera for Life – Nikon D3100 D5000 Nikon D7000 D700 D3s D3x
artoftheimage.blogspot.com - Following up on our discussion of Thom Hogan's DSLR Digital Camera for Life question, here's my choice if I had to pick a Nikon DSLR Digital Camera for Life out of the current Nikon DSLR line-up ( Nikon D3100 Nikon D5000 Nikon D7000 Nikon D700 Nikon D3s Nikon D3x )

Neither of those, I prefer Pentax K-r

@villan214 – They’re clearing out stock. It’s still a great camera, just not part of the current generation.

@ArtoftheImage

@villan214 – The Nikon D90 is no longer part of Nikon’s current model offering. Great DSLR though!

no D90?

For photography, more megapixels is fine. For filmmakers who want to use this camera to shoot video and emulate film, less megapixels works much better. There is a disconnect between what photography people and independent filmmakers want. Yet, what’s driving sales up on hdslr’s are indy filmmakers.

I have only shot a few current Nikons and for me, the D700 hits the sweet spot. The D80, D90, D3100, D7000 just don’t feel as sturdy and that seems to impact my impression of the images. I suppose that if I were to look at images and not know where they came from, the choice would be a lot tougher. For what ever subjective reason, the camera has to give me a motivational feel which then seems to create the artistic drive.

@JogBird – The D700 is a SWEET camera!

D700 for me… i plan to run it into the ground… it may be the last DSLR i buy. Although i shoot NEX5 as well.

@MandrakeCigars – I used a lavalier mic plugged into my Zoom H2, which gives a mono recording. I forgot to combine the channels in Sony Vegas before processing.

oh no… audio is in mono…

I’m not getting the same sharpness from the D7000 as I am with the D700 so I would have to go with the D700. BTW, the audio seems to only be coming from the left channel.

After a lot of research and watching videos like yours I went out and bought the D7000. What a wicked camera, pics are amazing, it feels perfect in my hands and shoots very fast. I luv it.
Cheers!!

The only reason i like the dx sensor is bc of the 1.5x magnification on lenses. my sigma 70-300mm is basicly a 105-450mm lens. I wouldnt want to loose the reach of the lenses, but at the same time I would like to have the frames per second of a D3s.

@harolddemaine – That’s a personal preference. Myself, I don’t use them anymore as I prefer smaller and lighter these days.

I agree with D7000 and the kit lens 18-105. The sharpness dynamic range is fantastic..comparing to my D300 with 17-55 2.8

I was wondering when this vid would be posted! And I couldn’t agree with you more!

I agree so much that I plan to get a D7000 soon (I currently own a D70s).
Could you please tell me what you think about the battery pack? is it a real plus to get one?
