Couldn’t agree more with Peter Thompson’s comment. Buy the camera, use the camera and then pass judgement. Have three lenses, 20mm F1.7, 14mmF2.5 and 14-42mm kit lens. Pity lens mount of zoom is not metal, as on the other two.
I have found that all three lenses have more than adequate sharpness, especially so the 12mm. I am used to an eye level viewfinder and the EVF will probably be my next purchase, as i grew up in the days of olympus Pen film cameras, Nikkormat ftn, Pentax MX and ME Super

Ever notice that people who post about how much they hate this camera don’t actually own one. The GF2 can be used entirely without the touchscreen if you want and the manual dial can control Aperture/ Shutter speed while the dedicated button does ISO. The only thing it lost from the GF1 is the mode dial and how much do you really want to change modes anyway. You should be shooting manual mode or auto, anything in between is a distraction. In real world shooting this camera is great.

@SA300 yepp, only way to disable touch screen in this camera is to turn it off.

@SA300
I have no objections for upgraded specs and less weight. I just really dislike that they stripped good features, added an unnecessary touch screen (brings the price up) and made it too small. But I guess that’s what the GF line is now for – miniaturizing.
Good thing is I don’t have to buy a new camera to replace the GF1 anytime soon. I’ll gladly see how other Micro Four Thirds product lines develop.

@TheCARCOON11 …as in ‘the end is nigh?’ …

@Esrhan The GF2 has improved features (except the lack of a socket for a remote actuator, now removed), including better engine, stereo sound and better HD video all in a smaller/lighter frame. The touch screen is an uptodate feature; things change, as they do. The GF3 has lost other features such as stereo sound, actuator socket and hot shoe so, maybe, is a move towards backwards feature-wise, but the frame is tiny and pocket ability is a useful feature for some people.

@ChArLiE9321 The 14mm and 20 mm pancake lenses are not bulky and not heavy. Also you could use other 4/3 pancake lenses such as the Olympus 17mm 2.8 and still retain the autofocus facility. These are all very versatile, wide angle lenses that make the GF1/GF2/GF3 very pocketable.

@GarbageState The lock is called the ‘off switch’.

who’s that beautiful girl??????

I still prefer the GF1 over 2 and 3. I don’t like the trend toward point & shoot compact cameras the GF line has been stripped down to.

is there nigh vision?

@ChArLiE9321
It’s much lighter and much, much smaller than most DSLR’s. This can fit into a small small bag that would be much more portable than the size of the bags you use for DSLR’s with multiple lenses… for me I want this because I build guitars. If I had a camera like this… I could meet and great bands, take high quality professional photo’s and then walk right into the concert and take professional video and it be only a shy larger than a regular compact with smaller image sensors.

Don’t see that point in compacts, you still have to carry the bulky lenses around, making it not compact? Far too overpirced as well, you can buy a 550d for the same price if you look in the right places.

if the lcd is resistive, it’s probably easy to accidentally touch it and change settings. i love touch lcd phones, but cameras… unless it has a lock, like a phone, or some other means to prevent accidental touching.

What a good idea to drop the mode dial and put a “super-easy” iA button. if this camera should be for people who wants all the control over the shot, not a camera that thinks for you.
The music is cool tough…

Mode dial and swivel screen would be spot on, shame its near perfect for me.
November 23rd, 2011 - 21:05
So in your tests which camera is funner to use GF1/GF2?
November 23rd, 2011 - 21:55
why not add a thin AMOLED fully swiveling screen like on the G2?
November 23rd, 2011 - 22:54
The only problem I have with the GF1 and GF2 is image stabilization. How does not have image stabilization affect shots?
November 23rd, 2011 - 23:02
cute but its only pocketable with a non-zoom pancake and still too expensive.
I admit that decreasing the size its a step forward!
November 23rd, 2011 - 23:54
how are lowlight shots compared to the lx5 and GF1?
November 24th, 2011 - 00:14

dont like it ,might as well buy a compact . it will need to be cheap .
i was going to buy a GF1 and bought the NX100 instead .
they should have incrementally improved the GF1 .
sony have designed a NEX horror and now lumix too .
small is not always better
