Not really true… The ‘reflex’ portion of SLR refers to the use of a pentaprisim and shutter mirror, that bends the light captured, physically through a series of 90deg angles from the lens to the OPTICAL eye piece, via the mirror & prism. Cameras like the S100fs that use an EVF, are transferring what is seen TTL via electronic means onto a tiny screen (or the larger screen on the back). Thus ‘reflex’ is indisputably referring to an optical / mechanical process.

Well, I dunno if the S100 is a SLR or not but you have the definition of the SLR a bit confused. It means that the light travels through a single lens and bounced, mirrored, or “reflexed” away from the imager’s surface in order (typically) to be directed into the user’s eye. Many SLR cameras also us a PentaPrism or Pentamirror to “reflex the image twice more and correct for inversion. See: Wiki, SLR, TLR, and “Waste-Level viewfinder”.

DSLR = digital single lens reflex.. so s100fs is DSLR
September 12th, 2010 - 23:53
s100fs is not DSLR? it is indeed.. DSLR = digital single reflex camera meaning the image that you see in the eye viewer was reflected from the lens and its called single reflex lens.
the only s100fs is not mounted with lens or its not changeable lens. so guys don’t be confused of the term they used…

its not compact actually… its still called as DSLR camera.. remember DSLR stands for Digital Single Reflex Lens Camera meaning what you see in the view finder is what came from the lens… so its called single reflex but its not mounted lens or changeable lens…

This Camera is a very well built product. It looks and feels strong, just like a proper DSLR.
The zoom is awesome…..better than carrying around 3 or for different lenses.
Picture quality is second to non, very good.
All the features on this camera are very good from the anti shake, face detection and film modes.
I far recomend this camera for pro or learner, it has features of a budget range DSLR havn’t got, yet i feels like a top range DSLR.
