@MrDampkring Best of luck to you. It’s a good choice. Now that I have used it for 4 months I still think it’s one of the best small compacts and now it’s 40 dollars less!

This is a great review, I was holding out for the Nikon P300 but think ill just go for this.

@jjmspace1 Yes, if you search CHDK for S95 and then download it (and install it onto your memory card), then run it on your S95, you will be able to zoom and focus during video.

@jjmspace1 The video functions of the S95 are what they are. They will not be changed. It has worked well for my needs but cameras are going through some changes right now. The video capabilities are getting better each month. If you wait until all features are out with electronics…you will never buy because they are always getting better. All the best.

Tnx 4 cool presentation. I got S95 week ago to complete my 50D which has no video recording, but also because of its nice features F2.0 and really pocket size and superior censor to its rivals, I’m happy with all except video, it has NO continuous focus nor optical zoom during shooting, which i didn’t think about it when i placed the order, thinking it is a pretty standard function that goes without asking. Can this be solved somehow by some kind of update (firmware or software)?

never mind haha

can you manually focus with this? Not knowing that and low light capability are the only things keeping me from buying it.

@FudgieCars You can hook it to a TV via HDMI or regular component out.

is there any av in output?

looks like they barely packed that camera well enough to keep it from being broken in transport.

@LEXPIX So true. This is why I got one. I looked at every high end compact available at the time. I decided on this one butt here are others made by Ricoh and Samsung (and others) that may be as good. The S95 has good quality, good video, and I like the Canon interface. Some of your bike rides were helpful in my decision to get the S95. True what you say, if you don’t have it with you it won’t do much good. I like to have my compact everywhere I go. Keep your videos coming. They are insightful.

@nate42nd Thanks man. Yeah, nothing beats a good DSLR but ya have to admit that a compact with manual controls is nice to have since it fits in your pocket.

@LEXPIX I enjoyed your videos on and including the S90. I like the S95 but don’t use it as much as I should. With my 7D…..I always want to use it. I do like the S95 for stills and video. It’s great. A little slow, but nothing too bad.

Very cool. I need to post a review of it soon myself.

that start up time is crazy
March 4th, 2011 - 07:53
@mnmtwinz No, Canon does not include remote capture with the S95. There MAY be some out there but I’m not aware of any. Lightroom 3 might….but I don;t think it does anything but DSLRs.Good luck.

Can the software be used as a frame capturing program? Are you able to connect the camera up to your computer open the software and click the mouse to take pictures?
March 4th, 2011 - 08:13
@GeGeMus12 Because of the F/2.0 lens and capabilities of the sensor. It’s a G12 packed into a small body. The lens and sensor are the main reasons it’s so expensive. It has the ability to capture RAW data with the sensor and the lens is F/2.o max. One of the best compacts available at this time.
March 4th, 2011 - 08:40
why is this camera so expensive for a point and shoot camera.
March 4th, 2011 - 08:45
@32ewing You use another setting or teke a picture of a white piece of paper and load that into the custom WB in the camera. It’s not too hard but it takes some playing around with th e settings. Every light source or combination creates a different light. If you shoot in RAW you can fix the WB later with the included software. It takes some time but it you have a picture you really want to save it’s invaluable.

what or how do i get the camera to neutralise colour errors from tungsten (orange) cast cant seem to find the setting even tho camera has awb ??????
March 4th, 2011 - 10:10
@32ewing Yes, battery life is okay but you need at least one spare. When you start shooting video they really drain fast.
March 4th, 2011 - 10:48
@32ewing By pushing up or down on the thumb wheel on the back.
March 4th, 2011 - 11:30
how to you control sound when using video playback
